Question: Can an oil over acrylic gesso primer for an Oil Painting?Normally I only use acrylic gesso, however, have prior recently learned about oil primer with a better surface for Oil Painting. I am reluctant to use rabbit skin glue, has anyone of alternatives, know to compare?
Answer: Many acrylic gessos work for Oil Painting. There are gessos made specifically for Oil Painting, but you really do not need made to one over the other. To improve the quality of your oil paintings you should: Use a high quality oil Start with quality linen start screens or gesso the canvas or linen with oil gesso-specific. These things are already making a difference with your images, provided your skills and talents are the best they can be.
