Question: I am trying some new colors. You are Winsor & Newton Artisan Water-miscible Oil Paints.?There are 4 days and they show no signs of drying. If they are dry, or is something wrong with them? Seems like regular Oil Paints dry faster. I figured since they are "water miscible "it would not take so long.
Answer: The short answer is yes, does it take just as long or longer as oils dry by the evaporation of water and normal drying time of linseed oil. The W & N oils are water-regular oils with linseed oil changed. Other than that, it's nothing different about them and ordinary oils. It should take as just about oil dry as soon as the water evaporates. The problem with W & N Brand is that it is very dry from the tube. Too much water can cause problems to the stability of the color. Even water leaves leaving tiny air holes after it evaporates the image dull and lifeless. The solution is to have a touch of water, use just enough to dampen the brush and water miscible Use the media, or just a stiff brush and some elbow grease.
