Question: Do I need to Oil Paint with linseed Oil Paint?This has been bugging I've heard that use of flaxseed as a carrier, but never knew what that meant. I'm painting with cheap oil is used for many years and wash water and turpentine and thin the paint. Now I have a very high quality Winsor & Newton update and need to know if I need to paint with linseed oil, and if so, will do any commercial linseed oil or do I need a batch specially for artists from
Answer: I have painted forty years plus and have never used linseed oil to thin my paints. I think that means it is not really a necessity. I think it thinner the paint, but also takes some life out of him. Van Gogh was the same way. I use turpentine wash () really thin paint, which I use to cover the canvas did not initially but linseed oil.
