Question: How does tempra paint compared to watercolor, oil, and how these compared to acrylic?I want to know what color is generally considered best for beginners and also what is the best surface to put color on the water? I am also interested in painting on wood. What is the best way of color on scrap wood to use? Any advice is helpful, but I would especially like to compare a range of media. Thank you!
Answer: Watercolors, tempera and Acrylic Paints are all water-based. So brush can be washed off with water. There are special papers for watercolors that you created in an art supply store can be created. Oil Painting, as you might guess from their name, are oil, take far more than the water drying paints mixed with linseed oil, white spirit (turpentine is too dangerous, they can damage your liver!) or other compounds. Brushes are cleaned with alcohol. You can either wood with oil or acrylic to paint. Paper or canvas should start with several thin layers of gesso before color can be produced. You can start with oil or acrylic. Either way you will become learn how to mix colors. I work with both and I think (for now) I prefer oils. My daughter loves acrylic. Go figure! Water colors, but are a different matter!
